Also called VITEX, INDIAN-SPICE, SAGE TREE, HEMP TREE, MONK’S PEPPER TREE, WILD PEPPER, or TEXAS LILAC
A tender deciduous flowering shrub, native to Asia, that is popular for yards in the South and West Coast. It has light brown bark, fissured when mature, and compound leaves, with clumps of fragrant flowers borne in spires that cover the often multi-trunked bushy plants in late spring to early fall. Slow growing in cold climates. Leaflets are dark green above and gray beneath. It flowers best with summer heat; showy lilac-blue flowers bloom in late summer and early fall.
This is a "pre-bonsai" tree that is in preparation for bonsai. It is in a nursery growing pot instead of a traditional bonsai pot.
