The Lacebark Elm Bonsai has smooth gray bark; and when it is mature, the bark begins to peel revealing multi-colorful patches of younger bark. Virtually immune to disease, this is the best elm for bonsai training; and one of the few species of trees that can be grown outdoors or indoors. It is a semi-evergreen tree, but outdoors it is deciduous in cold temperatures. Indoors, it is an evergreen, losing only some leaves as the daylight decreases during the winter months. tree, but outdoors it is deciduous in cold temperatures.
