A cousin to the spruce (picea), it loves the highest mountain peaks. The somewhat flat needle-like leaves are fixed directly to the branch, and the cones are erect which flake off to release the seeds. One of the only Fir trees to grow naturally from southern Michigan all the way down to most of Texas, Florida and the Southwest. Its rich green needles will reveal interesting grayish green undersides in a breeze, It is tolerant of both being dry and can stand warm temperatures.

This bonsai is a "pre-bonsai" tree that is in preparation for bonsai. It is in a nursery growing pot instead of a traditional bonsai pot.
