Starting in April, the new leaves develop quickly and cover the tree with soft, medium-green, divided leaves. By late spring or summer the flower spikes begin to open, and the tree is completely covered with a mass of beautiful yellow flowers, visited by honeybees. If the tree is kept watered, the flowers begin to set small fruits which develop an outer papery husk. Later in the summer, the fruits mature to a dark copper-tan and hang in clusters late into the fall, supplying seed that can easily be planted. Native to China, Korea, and Japan and introduced to the U.S. in 1763.

This is a "pre-bonsai" tree that is in preparation for bonsai. It is in a nursery growing pot instead of a traditional bonsai pot.
